About the Event

Judy Komisky Orr, LMSW, became the executive director of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Nashville in May 2019. Orr’s previous professional experience includes two years as vice president for mission-based services for Alive Hospice, 20 years as assistant vice chancellor for creative services at Vanderbilt University, and 10 years at Ingram Book Company. She started her career as a publications assistant at the Country Music Hall of Fame, when it was still on Music Row.

A Nashville native, Orr was born at the old Saint Thomas Hospital, on Hayes St. The sixth of seven children, she graduated from St. Henry and Father Ryan High School. She holds a bachelor's degree in English from Vanderbilt. With a decades-long successful career in communications, she sought an “encore career,” and earned a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee College of Social Work in December 2014. In 2015 she earned Tennessee state licensure as a Licensed Master Social Worker. In graduate school, her focus area was older adults and she worked as a geriatric care manager. Subsequently, she joined the Board of Alive Hospice, which led to a staff position in 2017. She had oversight of the seven-member grief counseling services department and three-person education and outreach team. She also was responsible for communications and fundraising.

Orr began serving on the Board of Father Ryan High School in 2006, and proudly became the first female chairman of the board (2013-17) of the formerly all-boys school. It was through that work that she became acquainted with a number of staff at the Diocese and Catholic Charities, which led to her current role as chief executive at Catholic Charities.

Judy has been married to Jay Orr, senior director of content for the Country Music Hall of Fame, for 33 years. They have three grown sons and two granddaughters. The boys all attended Christ the King and Father Ryan. In her “spare time,” Judy is an avid flower gardener, a sewer/tailor, bicyclist, and a voracious reader.

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help,
or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To thee do I come,
before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.
